Earlier this week, my best friend’s house burned and he lost his mom and brother in the blaze. Needless to say, this is big local news, and the networks have been all over it.

Hayden, pictured above with his mom, happens to be trans*. The people at WGRZ/Channel 2 in Buffalo have Hayden’s high school yearbook picture from before he transitioned, and are planning on airing it and outing him on television.

We can’t let this happen. This kid has been through a lot this week—he’s lost half his family and the media has consistently called him a girl even though his papers say otherwise. Most of the stations we called were cooperative—agreeing not to air the photo, and issuing corrections for the stories that incorrectly called him Nancy’s daughter—but Channel 2 has not been.

If you have five minutes, please call WGRZ at (716) 849-4444 (ask for the newsroom, or press 3 if you get the menu) and let them know this is not OK and that Hayden from the West Seneca house fire does not want his old yearbook photo aired. Or let them know on their Facebook page.

Please, if you have five minutes, just help us out. If you don’t have five minutes, somebody else might, so please reblog this. It’s been a really emotional week for Hayden and all his family and friends. Don’t let him get outed on the nightly news.
